CENTURION, South Africa (AP) Stephen Cook made a century on debut in the fourth test against England on Friday, raising South African spirits at the end of a series defeat that knocked the Proteas off the top of the rankings. Cook’s 115 helped South Africa to 329-5 at stumps on the opening day of the final test at SuperSport Park. Hashim Amla made 109, his 25th test hundred, and joined Cook for a 202-run partnership for the second wicket. Despite those two centuries, England fought back in the last session, removing Amla, captain AB de Villiers, Cook and JP Duminy. Having already wrapped up the series with a test to play, England’s bowlers initially struggled but lifted themselves for that burst of four wickets in quick succession late in the afternoon.
