Google has come under fire over the past year from anti-trust issues to privacy questions. But has this questioning by the mainstream media, bloggers and politicians had an impact on people in general? A new survey finds that 63.4% in the US who use the internet trust Google as much as a year ago, climbing to an overall trust factor 78.4%, when those who said they trust it more are added in. The survey? My own, using Google’s new Google Consumer Surveys service. While I have some issues with the service (see Is Google Letting Anyone Do “Scientific” Surveys A Good Thing?), it seemed perfect to test how people perceive Google. At the very least, I knew Google would have problems challenging the results. The Surveys I ran two different tests. The first, involving 1,500 people, asked “Do you trust Google as much as a year ago?” and allowed three responses (which were shown in a random order to each person): I trust Google the same I trust Google less I … [Read more...] about Survey: Nearly 80% Trust Google As Much Or More Than A Year Ago

Another crazy year is almost behind us. The year 2016 will be remembered for some huge and unexpected changes, some awesome new PPC features, and welcome changes to both the Google AdWords and Bing Ads platforms. But some new PPC features stuck out more than the rest this year. This article will separate the unicorns from the donkeys! Here are my picks for the top 10 new PPC features of 2016: 1. No More Right-Side Ads In February, Google killed off right-side text ads on desktop results, bringing the SERPs more in line with Google’s mobile experience. In addition, Google added a fourth ad spot above organic search results for “highly commercial queries”. This massive change was a shocker to pretty much every PPC marketer. When people woke up and discovered they were now living in a world in which desktop search results didn’t have text ads where they were supposed to be, many people freaked out. They predicted that PPC would never be the same again. (Spoiler … [Read more...] about The 10 Best & Biggest New PPC Features of the Year
Around half of adults are unable to recognise ads in Google’s search results, according to a survey. This surprising statistic comes from Ofcom’s Adults’ media use and attitudes report, released this month. While I’ve seen studies suggesting that many people don’t know the difference between paid and organic ads, that 50% could look at a set of results like those below and still not spot them seems bizarre. For Ofcom’s study, ‘adults who use search engines’ were shown a picture of the SERPs for ‘walking boots’. This is what the SERP looks like now, but the study was carried out in 2015, so the shopping results were not there at that time. As the study says: “Their attention was drawn to the first three results at the top of the list, which were distinguished by an orange box with the word ‘Ad’ written in it. They were then prompted with three options and asked whether any of these applied to these first … [Read more...] about Do 50% of adults really not recognise ads in search results?
There remains a plethora of old and new ways for businesses and advertisers to increase the click-through rates of their campaigns via Paid Search. We could have increased this list to 100 or even 200 strategies worth implementing. But by keeping the list to 50 targeted techniques, we are able to focus on the main ones that will have the biggest impact. In addition, this list does keep conversions in mind but occasionally we throw that out because some companies are less focused on ROI and more on brand awareness. There are times when higher click-through rates are not beneficial to businesses and advertisers (i.e. your cost per lead is incredibly high), but overall increased click-through rates are essential to well performing campaigns for several reasons. First, higher click-through rates allow for an overall lower cost per click at the campaign level. This will be explained in the strategies advertisers can use, but overall it creates a higher quality score, which reduces cost … [Read more...] about 50 Strategies To Increase Click Through Rate Via PPC Advertising
One of the great joys of working with my marketing clients has been helping them grow their Twitter followers and implement consistent tweet schedules. Meanwhile, my own account has collected dust with a lame, month-old tweet sitting at the top. Until recently. I first joined Twitter over seven years ago, back in 2009, and I’ve been grateful to learn so many best practices, strategies, and tactics from the community. The only problem was I didn’t apply any of this Twitter strategy to my own Twitter activity. All this changed a few months back when I decided it was time to give Twitter a real, honest-to-goodness shot. If I saw results, great. If not, I could ditch the platform once and for all and never deal with tweet anxiety again. Enter Buffer. And enter great results! I’m happy to share with you the exact process I tried and the wonderful results I saw, applying a Twitter strategy to my personal profile. Hopefully, you’ll see similar gains by putting this … [Read more...] about How I Grew My Traffic by Almost 50% in One Month Using Twitter
