Google Tests Hotel Search Box Without Local Identifier

Sergey Alakov posted on Twitter screen shots of Google showing the hotel finder box but without putting in the location of the searcher. So you searched for [hotel] and Google asks you to enter in the location of the hotel you are looking to book and not pre-fill in your current location.Here are screen shots of this in action from Sergey:Clicking on that city box will then add that city for the hotel search filter. Before Google was formally approved to buy travel software company ITA, the company argued that the acquisition would result in “innovation” for travelers and travel search users. Beyond the appearance of flight times/routes in search results we haven’t seen much “innovation” yet. Google’s new “find hotels by travel time” experiment is, however, an example of how Google might deliver new functionality and shake things up in the intensely competitive yet paradoxically complacent travel segment. Google Adds Price Insights to Hotel & Flights Searches

Google upgrades flight and hotel search to provide price grid views & more

Google announced several upgrades to both their flight search and hotel search features to aid searchers in finding the most economical options for their trips. Rolling out on Google Flights is the ability to ability to click on “Dates” to see the calendar view of date combinations with the cheapest prices highlighted in green and the most expensive in red. You can also see price graphs over time if you have a certain length of trip in mind. This feature is available on mobile and rolling out to desktop later this year. Here is a GIF of these flight search features in action: Often, flying to different nearby cities’ airports can save you on flight costs. Google also added the ability to see all nearby airports on an interactive map, view the distance between each one and your final destination and select the most convenient airports to include in your results.
