SEOlympics: Top Marketing Blogs of India
After his recent visit to India on January 26, 2015, President Obama made history by becoming the first sitting United States President to visit the world’s second most populous country twice. So, what did President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Naredra Modi discuss during this recent visit? One of the main conversations between the two global leaders was economics. For many U.S. businesses, India is an extremely promising market. Take Dominos, for example. India has become the second largest market for the pizza maker, with 818 stores. By 2020, there could be over 2,000 Dominos located in India. Besides Dominos, companies like Boeing and Allstate are planning to invest in the country. And, major brands from the States aren’t the only ones benefiting from the Indian market. Entrepreneurs and startups are also faring well. Douglas Leone of Silicon Valley’s Sequoia Capital told the Economic Times of India in October that, “We could not be more thrilled. We … [Read more...] about SEOlympics: Top Marketing Blogs of India
Google Tiptoes Into India With Street View
Google launched Street View on Thursday in India, the second most-populous country on earth. But “launch” may be a bit of an overstatement because, in a country that’s also the seventh biggest in square mileage, Google is only taking photographs in one city: Bangalore. Google announced that it’s using both cars and trikes to photographs the streets of Bangalore. The city is a smart first choice: It’s a tech hub that’s often referred to as India’s version of Silicon Valley. Presumably, many in Bangalore will be familiar with and welcoming toward Street View photography. When the Street View images are eventually added to Google Maps, all of the normal precautions will be in place: blurred faces and license plates, no images of private locations and a “report a problem” tool to ask that images be removed. There’s a little bit of history between India and Google’s map-related imagery. In 2008, after terrorists admitted that … [Read more...] about Google Tiptoes Into India With Street View
India Set To Bring Heavy Hand Of Censorship Down On Facebook, Google
According to Indian site NDTV a top Indian court said that Google and Facebook could be entirely blocked in the country unless they come up with a way to selectively censor or remove images and content that India’s government deems offensive. This is pursuant to a recently enacted law aimed at blocking or removing “offensive” or “objectionable” content from the internet in India. The problem is that the Indian law includes a a long list of concepts and content restrictions that are so broad and vague as to make enforcement a nightmare: [A]nything that is “harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, blasphemous, defamatory, pornographic, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, hateful, disparaging, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, relating to money laundering or gambling.” The law would also make websites potentially liable for the acts of individual users and third parties over which they have little or no control. … [Read more...] about India Set To Bring Heavy Hand Of Censorship Down On Facebook, Google
Keeping The Lawyers Busy: Google Now Faces Antitrust Investigation In India
Google is under antitrust investigations in the US, Europe, Argentina and South Korea. Now India has said it will investigate AdWords for anti-competitive behavior, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). The Competition Commission of India said that although it’s initially focused on AdWords the scope of the investigation could expand over time. The WSJ cites data showing that “less than 10% of India’s population of 1.2 billion is online” but that Google now controls a “50 percent share of the overall Indian digital ad market.” The WSJ described one of the several complaints received by the Indian Competition Commission over AdWords: In February, the Commission received a complaint from Consim Info. Pvt. Ltd., a Chennai-based company that operates a host of match-making Web sites for various Indian regional communities, including “TamilMatrimony.com” and “BengaliMatrimony.com.” Consim alleges that Google abused its … [Read more...] about Keeping The Lawyers Busy: Google Now Faces Antitrust Investigation In India
