Each month, I compile Search Month— a recap of all the stories that have happened relating to search, categorizedby topic. I thought it would be fun to take all the Search Months over the pastyear and produce this edition of Search Year 2007. It was far more work than Iimagined, but I hope you’ll find this at-a-glance guide to what happened insearch during 2007 to be helpful. At-a-glance might be a stretch. This is a massive post, and I’m sure somepeople might feel a bit of overload. So, here’s some guidance as to how thingsare organized. In many categories, I tried to pick the biggest news story for that topic. This isn’t always the case. With some categories such as SEO, there where manygood, compelling stories. In some of those cases, I went with a catchy headlineor a recent, broadly applicable article. I wish I’d had the time to more closelygo through and pick out the very best in each section, but it was too mucheffort. Someone once said that Americans deserved a tax system that looked as it if were designed on purpose. No doubt, the world is a complicated place when tax time looms. Rule changes, exemptions, complicated deductions — it’s no wonder that people start to sweat a little as April 15 approaches. If there’s one thing taxpayers can cheer, however, it’s the fact that the web has really helped reduce the pain of researching tax information, completing tax documents and submitting tax returns. Tax season is increasingly a digital season. Here at Bing Ads, we’ve seen firsthand the growing tendency to go online at tax time and have learned quite a bit about the habits of web-using taxpayers. We think tax time is a great time for those in tax-related service businesses to tailor ad campaigns that highlight the services they offer and attract new customers. Tax Season Offers Opportunities & Challenges For Advertisers Clearly, people use the Internet heavily at tax … [Read more...] about Plan Now for Great Advertising Returns
Of the many different content management systems and web publishing platforms I’ve done SEO for, WordPress is the most popular. Blogs, company websites and web shops run on WordPress. Designers are fascinated by its versatility and the range of adaptations possible with it. Users love its simplicity and effectiveness. It’s a simple blogging system that needs little or no knowledge of coding, website design or other technical details. Nearly 25% of the world’s top 10 million websites — including TIME, Mashable, Marketing Land and Search Engine Land — are built on WordPress. But being easy to use, WordPress also makes it tempting to take on things you shouldn’t — or overlook/ignore important elements of SEO that can cause problems with business growth, success and profitability. This column isn’t a step-by-step guide to WordPress SEO, but will address some of the frequent questions I’m asked about SEO for WordPress websites. It will … [Read more...] about 10 WordPress SEO Questions That Took Me 10 Years To Answer!
Does anyone else remember the early days of Instagram? I’m talking pre-Facebook acquisition, when posting a mediocre picture from your iPhone became more appealing on the platform due to the beauty-enhancing filters. Highlighting your low-quality shot in all the right places. Giving your face a one-touch tan. Your friends list was intimate and limited. The platform felt more personal than any other social network that came before it… Nowadays, things have become a bit more complex. Your feed is likely cluttered with long lists of imported Facebook friends, your favorite athletes, actors, and celebrity chefs. Oh, and then there’s that tiny announcement Instagram made last fall about opening up advertising privileges to all. Unfortunately, early Instagram fans are heavily displeased with the increase in ads. According to Venture Beat, 58.3% of Instagram super-fans are unhappy with the way ads have been incorporated into their feeds. This study was published in early … [Read more...] about 10 Companies Winning at Instagram Advertising
