A 2016 study by comScore showed that adults are 30 percent more likely to choose online video over TV when given a choice of where to watch video content. Many of us have been running TrueView campaigns on YouTube from within AdWords for a while, but how many of the newer or updated features are you taking advantage of? First, let’s take a step back in time and remember what TrueView was like back in the day: There was a separate interface for TrueView campaigns. Reporting options were pretty limited and very clunky to use. Optimization was limited, with very few bid modifiers or testing options available. As well as limited optimization, there weren’t many decent targeting options. Luckily, things have improved a lot since then, and we can now have much simpler, more goal-oriented campaigns sitting alongside our existing AdWords activity (Search, Shopping, Display and App Promotion campaigns). Thanks to this integration, we benefit from much easier and more extensive … [Read more...] about How to spice up your TrueView audience strategy on YouTube
Branding on youtube
YouTube spawned Hulu and Hulu is having a big influence on the future of YouTube. Hulu has had great success with brand advertisers, while YouTube has struggled to sell itself to brands despite being the dominant video site online (see chart below). Accordingly, last month ClickZ reported that YouTube was getting a Hulu-like makeover that would better showcase some of the professionally produced TV and film content YouTube has been working to acquire: The new design will offer four tabs: Movies, Music, Shows, and Videos. The first three tabs will display premium shows, clips, and movies from Google’s network and studio partners, all of which will be monetized with in-stream advertising. Meanwhile the Videos channel will house amateur and semi-pro content of the sort major brand advertisers have shied away from. YouTube has also been doing lots of creative things to generate more revenue and live up to expectations in that arena. Among them, expanding the novel “click to … [Read more...] about Google To Create “Hulu” For Music Video, Moves Toward Inclusion Of More Professional Content On YouTube
I often write about what you can do to protect your brands when it comes to the major search engines: Google, Yahoo and Bing. But did you know that the second most popular search engine today is YouTube? (according to Hitwise, ranking ahead of Yahoo search). You can buy self-service advertising on YouTube through its “promoted videos” advertising system, which is great and easy to use. Beware, however: if you are trying to protect your brand, “promoted videos” can seem like the wild west revisited. Ads run on YouTube in much the same way as they do on the text based search engines. On the left side of the screen is “organic” content and on the right is “paid.” You’ll find two types of paid ads on YouTube: “promoted videos” which are ads to generate traffic to videos, and text ads from Google’s content network which generate clicks to web pages. If you pick any major brand and plug it into the search query box on … [Read more...] about Search, Video & Your Brand: Hello YouTube!
Many of us in the SEO community obsess about Google algorithm changes, personalized search, Bing market share growth, and the myriad minutia that affects search engine behavior. But for all of the attention that we give most of the major players in search, it remains a mystery to me why the second largest search engine is routinely ignored. In case you hadn’t realized, in terms of share of search, YouTube remains ahead of Yahoo!, safely in the No. 2 spot behind Google, according to comScore. Clients and colleagues frequently ask, “Why do some videos rank well on Google but not YouTube and vice-versa?” Just like all of life’s important questions, the answer is complicated. Therefore, I will concentrate only on the most important factors. When it comes to SEO, most of us follow the general rule that what’s good for Google is usually good enough for other search engines. And considering that most clients would tell you that Google is their number one priority … [Read more...] about The Key To Top Video Rankings On YouTube & Google
