A company website is the core of most local businesses’ online presence. In fact, more than half of all SMB online marketing service dollars are spent on the Web presence category, including Web design and hosting, according to a Borrell Associates study released late last year. Yet, despite its central role, the vast majority of SMBs continue to struggle in developing a site that can be easily found in search and that provides the information, engagement and trust that consumers are looking for. A recent vSplash audit of the presence of 3.9 million U.S. SMB websites found deficiencies in many key categories. For example, one-quarter of the SMB websites audited could not be found in online searches because their websites earned a Google PageRank of zero or had no Google PageRank. Over 90% of SMB websites didn’t display a contact email address, while nearly half lacked a phone number on their homepage. Each of these deficiencies presents potential missed opportunities for … [Read more...] about 8 Keys To A Successful Local Business Website

Everyone knows the importance of search engine optimization. There are millions of pages on the web devoted to explaining the methodology necessary to increase traffic to a website. The real shame is many sites that are successful in driving traffic are failing at maximizing the revenue potential. Don’t be that guy. I’ve been digging into customer service books over the past couple years, and it never ceases to amaze me how many companies just don’t get customer service right. And just how easy it is to get right, if only businesses would only take a few extra steps. Not too long ago, my wife and I stayed at a hotel where customer service was clearly made a priority. Most of the staff knew us by name, and when it came to deciding what to order from the breakfast menu (which was free) the hostess told me to “Get them both!” But as great as our experience was, there were a few noticeable lapses in service. Not that anything was bad, but something was noticeably missing. One example: We were told that hors d’oeuvres are served in the library each evening. On the first night, my wife and I decided to hang out by the fireplace and play a game of Sorry! while we waited for hors d’oeuvre time. About 30 minutes past hors d’oeuvres time, there were still none … [Read more...] about 7 Ways to Create Customer Service Content
Email autoresponders are the holy grail of marketing. You set up a sequence of emails once and you’re done. Thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands, of people will get exactly the same emails from you, in the same order. This allows you to create an unbelievably consistent level of service. Perhaps the most underrated benefit of autoresponders is that they exist within email marketing, the most profitable channel of marketing. Capterra found that every one dollar spent on email marketing resulted in $44.25 of revenue. So, not only can autoresponders save you a lot of time, but they can also be extremely effective in driving profit for your business. Of course, there are two sides to everything and autoresponders are no exception: they have some limitations. If you don’t understand these limitations and take appropriate action, you will end up with autoresponders that suck. Remember that an autoresponder is just a tool. It’s how you use it that counts. One marketer … [Read more...] about A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating an Autoresponder
