Google to Boost News Articles in Search Results for Paying Subscribers Soon, Google will boost news articles in search results for paying subscribers of those publications. According to Bloomberg, Google is making this change in an effort to assist publications with finding and retaining paying subscribers. Additionally, Google will share search data which shows who is most likely to pay for content, meaning publishers can better target new subscribers. Google Publishes Annual Bad Ads Statistics Every year, Google gets faster and more efficient at removing ads that violate its policies. Brad Brewer who follows Google's hotel search results really closely spotted Google now showing a "similar hotels" carousel in the local knowledge panel of a hotel result in Google Maps. Personally, I cannot currently replicate it but Brad posted this screen shot:There is nothing like going to Google, looking up a specific hotel and then being given alternatives that lead you to book somewhere else. The people also ask box which launched in Google organic desktop results in February 2018 has also launched last month for the Google search ads on desktop. This was only recently spotted by John Leo Weber on Twitter and Ginny Marvin got confirmation from Google.Google explained this launched with the search ads back in September 2017 on the mobile search results for AdWords ads and then this past May in desktop results. To trigger it, you need to click on an ad in the search results and then click the back button. We have a client site whose SEO often defies description, along with canonicalization. We often have to check Google’s cache of various URLs to see what in fact Google is getting, but sometimes when you view the Full Version of the cache it just rapidly reloads like a blinking strobe light. Kind of like this: Satan Scary GIF And there’s no way to get to the Text-Only or View Source versions of the cached URL as the links don’t stay in place long enough for your cursor to recognize the link and make it clickable. The good news is there’s a simple way to get the desired view of a cached URL in Google – add text strings to the end of the URL in your browsers address bar. If you are logged into your Google My Business account and do a search for your business, you may see a call to action from Google to add Google Posts to your Google local knowledge panel. Here is a screen shot from my business where Google is saying "add a post, tell customers about a special event, deal or product." This is only visible to me, because I have rights to add posts to my Google My Business listing. Here is a screen shot:I am not sure if this is new - I know I've been seeing this the past couple of weeks. I also have been bad about adding Google Posts over the past couple of weeks.
