Last night, Bloomberg reported that Twitter and Google struck a new deal to give Google access to their firehose of Tweets again. Back in July 2011, Google's real time search feature went offline and after some time, Google confirmed their deal with Twitter to gain access to their data in real-time was not renewed. Bloomberg reports that the two companies have renewed their deal and have begun working on bringing back real-time search, powered by Twitter, into Google's search results. Honestly, I have been tracking Google real-time search since the day it stopped working, I have a few bookmarks that would trigger it to show up, based on the old infrastructure Google used to display those results. I was hoping Google would find another way to bring it back, but they didn't - they had to do a licensing deal with Twitter, I guess.Former Googler, Pedro Dias, posted his dissatisfaction over the news on Twitter saying:In the past Google built a whole infrastructure to plug Twitter's … [Read more...] about Google Real Time Search Coming Back With Twitter Deal; Spammers Rejoice
Google’s Real Time Search is awesome. I’d love to point more people at it, but I can’t. That’s because unlike many other specialized Google search services, Google Real Time Search doesn’t have its own home page. That sucks, and it’s time to change. Want to search for images on Google? The death of actress Brittany Murphy is probably the first test for Google’s new real time search results. Earlier this year, when Michael Jackson died, it took several minutes for the news to make it into Google despite the extraordinary number of searches it was getting. The integration of real time results was designed in part to ensure Google wasn’t falling behind on news until traditional news outlets could file. When I looked about 1/2 hour after the first reports came out, Google had plenty of traditional news results. That’s pretty normal, so it’s hard for me to tell what happened in the first minute after the news appeared. Was Google lacking news results? Did the real time results make up for this? I can’t say. How about the real time results themselves? How are they adding to the quality of Google’s listings. They are appearing in a unit midway down the page: What’s up with that? Was Google just recycling the same stuff? Or … [Read more...] about Brittany Murphy’s Death & Google’s Real Time Search Results
