Google, Microsoft & Other Online Giants Need Greener Data Centers

Greenpeace has issued a report warning of the ballooning energy needs of data centers feeding cloud computing. It is intended to encourage cloud providers to choose cleaner energy sources, so it does not beat up overly on Google, Amazon, Salesforce, MicroSoft, Facebook, and Yahoo!. But, it is a mixed report card, may indicate an important trend. If you use a laptop, chances are you’ve already realized that fast, small computers tend to run hot. This may change as more efficient technologies are developed such as quantuum computers, but currently computers require considerable cooling to keep from overheating. Hobbyists tinkering in their garages play with “overclocking” their computers by doing things like circulating liquid nitrogen through them so that they can safely speed up the processors. Large data centers, with their ranks of racks upon racks of servers, must typically use more traditional methods for keeping the computers cool and functioning optimally. Google Files Suit Against SEO Firm Accused Of Robocalling, Launches Complaint Center For Users

After years of near inaction, Google is stepping up to take on robocallers that claim affiliation with the company in order to prey on small businesses. In addition to launching a new page for users to report call scams, Google filed suit on Wednesday against a search engine optimization firm for making robocalls. “Our office is beseiged [sic] daily by phone calls asking to update our Google listing. The calls said we could push a number to be removed from their database, but the calls continue even after we did so. How do we get those calls to stop??”. That complaint from 2013 is just one of many that come up in a search for “robocalls” on the Google My Business help forum. In its first legal move to combat robocallers claiming to work for or with the company, Google My Business Operations Manager Brad Wetherall announced in a blog post that “today we’re filing an action in California against one search engine optimization company for making these … [Read more...] about Google Files Suit Against SEO Firm Accused Of Robocalling, Launches Complaint Center For Users

Bidding On Competitors Brand Terms: The Complete Guide

It’s been long known in the industry that brand term keywords garner a much higher click-through-rate. As a result, marketers often start by bidding on their own brand terms. This however cannibalizes, to some degree, organic traffic that would have been received for those terms anyway. When bidding on competitor brand terms, you don’t have to worry about cannibalization of your own organic results; these are terms for which you probably weren’t going to rank anyway. If you were, that means you’re using competitor brand terms on your own pages – a risky proposition from a legal standpoint. Yes, the FTC does have some regulatory language about mentioning competitors for the purposes of a factual comparison, but the risk of doing this poorly and opening yourself up to a lawsuit or a false advertising complaint probably outweighs pursuing strategies involving comparisons. The Practice Is Fairly Common As far as paid search goes, in the U.S. at least, my … [Read more...] about Bidding On Competitors Brand Terms: The Complete Guide

Imagine a world in which machines interpret the emotional state of humans and adapt their behavior to give appropriate responses to those emotions.Well, artificial emotional intelligence, which is also known as emotion AI or affective computing, is already being used to develop systems and products that can recognize, interpret, process, and simulate human affects (with an “a,” not an “e”). In psychology, an “affect” is a term used to describe the experience of feeling or emotion. If you’ve seen “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, then you’ve seen the poster child for artificial emotional intelligence: L3-37.Lando Calrissian’s droid companion and navigator (voiced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge) instigates a slave revolt to escape from Kessel, but is severely damaged during the diversion. Lando (played by Donald Glover) is also injured during the getaway. The “woke robot” demonstrates the ability to simulate empathy by … [Read more...] about What Is Artificial Emotional Intelligence & How Does Emotion AI Work?
