Celebrity Investment in Apps Search Engine Journal

Prolific celebrity investors such as Ellen DeGeneres and Ashton Kutcher are part of a new trend that has taken over Silicon Valley. Hollywood starlets have started to invest heavily in tech startups, and it could have a deep impact on the industry. Instead of being paid for an endorsement and benefitting financially for a limited time frame, they become investors and reap the rewards long-term should the investment turn out to be profitable. How to Create Infographics That Drive Traffic

Once upon a time, infographics were all the rage. They were everywhere, and in every form — beautiful, quirky, funny, insightful, or just plain weird. And for the most part, they worked. Neil Patel’s companies, for example, reeled in millions of visitors off the back of infographics alone. Things are very different today. Sure, there are many awesome infographics floating around on the web, generating a ton of traffic for their creators and delighting their audiences. But for the most part, the infographic world seems to be a lot quieter. People are starting to realize that it’s not enough to throw together some words and images. Readers are tired of seeing the same old, tired ideas being rehashed, or numbers mashed together in a shoddy mess of graphs and charts. If you follow the rest of this post closely, you might have a fighting chance yet. … [Read more...] about How to Create Infographics That Drive Traffic

How Google might Disambiguate Entities with the Same Names in Queries and Pages

Last year I wrote a post titled Google on Finding Entities: A Tale of Two Michael Jacksons. The post was about a Google patent that described how Google might tell different entities apart that shared the same name. The patent in it was filed in 2012 and granted in 2014. It is worth looking at this second one, given how important understanding entities is to Google. It contains a pretty thoughtful approach to understanding and distinguishing between different entities within documents and queries. The patent on how to disambiguate entities was filed in 2006, and the inventors also authored an article in 2006 about named entities that shows where their minds were at during the time: Using Encyclopedic Knowledge for Named Entity Disambiguation, by Marius Pasca and Razvan Bunescu The paper echoes the patent in many places, and it appears that the two documents were … [Read more...] about How Google might Disambiguate Entities with the Same Names in Queries and Pages
