“Link building” is a bad word to most SEOs and online marketers. If you’re an agency who does link building, you get fired by your clients. If you’re an in-house SEO who does link building, you get fired from your company. If you do link building, your site gets hit with a penalty. However you slice it, link building is evil incarnate in the world of search engine optimization. Or is it? It seems to me as if SEOs have to tow the party line. “Link building is evil” and therefore, SEOs must act in like they believe link building is bad. But every SEO knows that link building is absolutely imperative for successful SEO (link goes to an article on the topic on my own site). We’re caught in the classic Catch-22 of modern SEO — the need and evilness of link … [Read more...] about What’s the Future of Link Building?
Link building 2014
I’ve always believed an online marketing campaign can only succeed by using a healthy mixture of several different tactics. I myself am a link builder, and I swear by link building. However, if you rely solely on link building to increase visibility, be prepared for failure. Not every webmaster is eager to link to other websites, and it can be a long time before you see positive impacts. So I would never suggest an exclusive focus on link building for your online marketing efforts, but I would also never suggest an exclusive focus on PPC, content marketing, email marketing, etc. Why would you hone in on one tactic when they can all complement each other so well? The spirit of collaboration is important. If you were to come see the Page One Power office, you could tell almost immediately by the way it’s set up that I’m a big believer in teamwork. All of our employees are divided into pods, where they are teamed with 2-3 link builders. Each of these pods sit within … [Read more...] about How Link Building Complements Other Marketing Strategies
Looking for link building opportunities requires creativity and a basic understanding of both marketing and psychology. Understanding these three important considerations will prevent you from wasting time by reaching out to irrelevant domains. A quick evaluation of the relevancy, obtainability, and capacity of your brand to get links can lead to an efficient link building campaign. As Matt Cutts said … [Read more...] about Smart Alternatives to Dangerous Link Building Strategies
At last month’s SMX West conference, it was clear that the Pigeon Update has caused a huge shift in the local search world. There were hardly any questions about citations this year — most of the questions related to site content and links. This makes sense, because according to the 2014 Local Search Ranking Factor study by Moz, the two most important local ranking factors are on-site signals and links. Content marketing is so prevalent nowadays, but it seems that many business owners are still confused when they actually try it. Remember: Creating content is not content marketing. The content is only the first step — you have to go market that content for it to be effective. While this should be clear from the name of the tactic, far too many businesses forget the second half of the equation. So, what’s the secret sauce? You’ve got to get links to your content. The entire purpose of content marketing is to get your content noticed. When this happens, your … [Read more...] about The Missing Link Building Tip For Local SEO
