Last December, we at Yoast wrote about all the things that you should take in account when cleaning up bad backlinks. We asked Christoph at LinkResearchTools to check all of the information to ensure we were not missing anything. When going over that post, we felt that we should elaborate on the subject of link building on our website, although link building is not the same (trade) as website optimization. And that is why we are pleased to present you with this post Christoph wrote for you. In this article, you will find practical tips and smart alternatives to dangerous link building strategies. Link Building Today: “Sweat Plus Creativity” Before the first Google Penguin update in 2012, people just wanted to build as many links as possible, using any available means. In the Penguin era the focus has shifted to white hat SEO – building trusted and powerful links. Is this easy? Of course it’s not! Building high quality links is no easy job. As Matt Cutts said … [Read more...] about Smart Alternatives to Dangerous Link Building Strategies
This week, the SEJ ThinkTank was joined by two of Page One Power’s project managers, Cody Cahill and Amy Merrill, for an informative presentation about how to help clients to build valuable links in 2016. This webinar was sponsored by Page One Power. The 45-minute presentation of Cody and Amy included a lot of great information about Page One Power’s teamwork approach to manual link building, their collective process, and why transparency lives at the core of building solid links. Why Link Building in 2016? Cody and Amy say that link building is still the core of Google’s algorithm in 2016. Back in 2012, link building was just a tactic, but it has now evolved as a core marketing strategy. They also said that great content and social media shares aren’t enough, but great content needs link building for it to work. Link building is essential in 2016, but it is also equally essential that it is done right. I’ve spent the last three years of my life professionally obsessed with links. My agency’s primary specialization is link-building, but it’s often impossible to build links if the site itself isn’t well optimized, and furthermore less likely to have the desired impact. Link-building is the majority of what we do, but we have to do everything in between in order to really make the link-building shine. I’ve had to do it for friends, … [Read more...] about What Is Link-Building, and Why Does It Matter in 2015?
At last month’s SMX West conference, it was clear that the Pigeon Update has caused a huge shift in the local search world. There were hardly any questions about citations this year — most of the questions related to site content and links. This makes sense, because according to the 2014 Local Search Ranking Factor study by Moz, the two most important local ranking factors are on-site signals and links. Content marketing is so prevalent nowadays, but it seems that many business owners are still confused when they actually try it. Remember: Creating content is not content marketing. The content is only the first step — you have to go market that content for it to be effective. While this should be clear from the name of the tactic, far too many businesses forget the second half of the equation. So, what’s the secret sauce? You’ve got to get links to your content. The entire purpose of content marketing is to get your content noticed. When this happens, your … [Read more...] about The Missing Link Building Tip For Local SEO
In a recent Google+ live hangout, Google’s webmaster trends analyst, John Mueller, answered a common question: “Is link building in any way good?” His answer was somewhat surprising. “In general, I’d try to avoid that,” he said, indicating that link building, long believed to be an essential process in SEO, is no longer advisable. Mueller elaborated on his answer, saying that Google does take links into consideration as part of its ranking algorithm, but that building links directly isn’t the right way to go about it. He stated that your goal should be to make sure your content “stands on its own” and easy for your users to share on their own blogs and websites. He also downplayed the importance of links, insisting that the ranking algorithm takes many factors into consideration, and building links might ultimately do more harm than good for your site. Links Doing More Harm Than Good? The short version of Mueller’s response is … [Read more...] about What’s The State Of Link Building For SEO In 2015 & Beyond?
