Several days ago, rumors started surfacing on Twitter that a former Google representation, a senior one, is now playing for the other team - spamming the search engine. It’s a well known fact that links play a key role in search engine optimization. In addition to providing a physical connection between pages, search engines also use links to get advance notice of the content they’ll find at the other end of that link. But it’s assumed that you can see that you’re on a landscaper’s website, so … [Read more...] about Tips For Using Descriptive Links For SEO On Mobile Websites
Your site architecture — the way you structure and organize internal links (e.g., a link to the About Us section of your website from your main navigation) — plays a vital role in how both users and search engines are able to navigate your website, ultimately impacting your website’s rankings. Modern search engines use links to crawl the web. The crawlers used by these search engines click on each link that appears on a page — both internal links and external links — and then all the links on each subsequent page, and so on. This allows the search engines to find your pages and rank them in their indices. Search engines such as Google also use the number of links to rank query results, considering each link as a vote of importance for a page (i.e., PageRank). For this reason, the way you link the pages on your website plays a big role in how search engines crawl, understand and rank your site. As an SEO practitioner, how do you make sure your site … [Read more...] about Improve internal linking for SEO: Calculate Internal PageRank

Web practitioners from various disciplines may have different terms for this, but I think this is a term that’s well understood in the SEO ‘community’ and beyond. Broadly speaking, internal linking refers to any links from one page on a domain which lead to another page on that same domain. For the purpose of this post, I’m mainly going to confine myself to the latter – the editorial links within … [Read more...] about Internal Linking for SEO: Examples and Best Practices
