A Marketer’s Guide to Facebook Messenger Bots

The latest interface for the tech world, chatbots, arrived on Facebook Messenger this year. But Facebook is not alone in the chatbot game. There is Microsoft's infamous Tay. Both Line and Kik have their own suite of bot-building tools. Bots are also the core concept behind Google Assist and the Allo platform. It is clear; chatbots are not just a fad. It's also clear that Facebook Messenger is the most attractive platform on which to run bots for marketers. This is due to the 1 billion monthly active users according to Statista, payment and advertiser integration, as well as a healthy developer ecosystem. Not only are your customers there, but they also want to hear from you. According to a Nielson survey, in the next two years, 67% of people using chat apps expect to use messaging apps to communicate with businesses. "We have a two-sided network," explains David Marcus, Vice President of Messaging Products at Facebook. "There are 15 million businesses using pages and 1.6 billion people … [Read more...] about A Marketer’s Guide to Facebook Messenger Bots

Facebook Messenger for Social Customer Service

Social media, Facebook in particular, is becoming increasingly important to customer service for businesses. In addition to creating brand awareness, engaging users, and driving conversations, consumers are also increasingly turning to social for customer service inquiries. The numbers offer clear evidence of this. One study found that 67% of the people polled had used social media to address a customer service issue. The same study found that younger age groups are more likely to engage with businesses online and that quick and quality customer service on social is important for consumer satisfaction with brands and businesses. While the study is a bit dated, going back to 2013, it still holds true today. We can only expect social media’s role to expand in assuaging customer concerns and managing expectations. It’s faster and more convenient for customers to contact businesses on social rather than having to wait for email responses or long-winded phone calls during which … [Read more...] about Facebook Messenger for Social Customer Service

Facebook Messenger has new ways for brands to meet its 900 million users

Facebook is priming the pump for brands to go big on Messenger. A week before Facebook is expected to announce ads in its messaging service, the social network is rolling out new ways for brands to get in front of the now 900 million people who use Messenger each month. For starters, Messenger is adopting Twitter-like usernames to make it easier for people to find one another, or to find brands, on Messenger. To make things even easier, Messenger is introducing Snapchat-like image codes that people can take pictures of with their phones in order to immediately connect with a person or brand on Messenger. And brands seeking a more old-school approach or a desktop audience can now use unique links that point people directly to their Messenger profiles. Brands will be able to get their hands on these Messenger Links by adding their Messenger username to the URL m.me/____, and they can put the specialized links anywhere: on a brand’s site, in a TV ad, on a billboard and so on. Over … [Read more...] about Facebook Messenger has new ways for brands to meet its 900 million users

Facebook’s Page Plugin Now Lets Users Chat With Messenger & Subscribe To Events

Earlier this year, Facebook launched “Page Plugin,” an embedded widget that promoted Facebook pages and content. This month, they announced that they’ve bulked up the functionality to do much more than simply promote content. Page Plugin can now handle messages from customers (using Messenger functionality), as well as integrating with Facebook Events. Messaging If you are a brand that leverages Facebook and Messenger for customer service, this integration is right up your alley. Visitors can now pen a message and instantly send to your staff and follow up using Messenger. For customers, this is a clear win — no extra contact accounts needed and contacts occurring on a platform that they are familiar with. Posted by Facebook Developers on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 To implement messaging on Page Plugin, head over to the developer documentation for details. Events According to Facebook, 55 million public Facebook events were created last year. Events can now be … [Read more...] about Facebook’s Page Plugin Now Lets Users Chat With Messenger & Subscribe To Events

Facebook has created its own analytics tool for Messenger bots

With more than 34,000 Messenger bots on the market since their April 2016 debut, Facebook is rolling out an analytics tool that will detail to Messenger bot makers how people are interacting with their bots and cross-reference those stats with people’s Facebook profile data, in hopes of improving people’s experiences with those bots. Developers, including brands and publishers, will be able to use the new branch of Facebook Analytics for Apps in the same way they use Facebook’s analytics platform to track how people are interacting with their websites and mobile apps, and will be able to connect those people across the three platforms. And like the other analytics products, the bot analytics tool will be available for free. For example, a Messenger bot maker will be able to see how many people opted to stop receiving messages from a Messenger bot, break down that audience into segments according to their Facebook profiles — like their age, gender, job title, … [Read more...] about Facebook has created its own analytics tool for Messenger bots
