An easy quarterly plan for local link building
Summer conference season is in full swing, and this month I’m stepping off Greg’s Soapbox to share some in-depth knowledge. With the release of the 2017 Local Search Ranking Factors and several studies, local SEO sessions are all pushing the importance of building local links. Even when tips are shared that explain how to get great links, people always seem to come back with variations on the same question: How do you actually build local links? I wrote a post here on Search Engine Land last year about building local links, and I usually point people to that post to get good ideas. But recently, several people have pointed out that it shares high-level ideas, not actual tactics. So, I decided that I should share some insight into how our team works the link-building process, with a focus on actual process and tactics. Keep in mind, we’re talking local SEO for SMBs, so we won’t have huge budgets to create amazing content pieces or huge teams and tons of time to … [Read more...] about An easy quarterly plan for local link building

The great account structure debate at SMX West 2016
The opponents glowered across the stage at each other, nostrils flared and muscles poised for action. The tension could be felt as keenly as an over-tuned mandolin string. This was the Great Account Structure Debate at last week’s SMX West conference, in which winners would be winners and losers would be losers. That is how I would have started this article had the debate come to physical blows. Thankfully, no violence occurred, and in fact, it all went down quite amicably. Whether planned or unplanned, this debate centered primarily around the use of Single Keyword Ad Groups (SKAGs), and there were several good points made all around. The participants and their arguments took place as follows. Caitlin Halpert, 3Q Digital: SKAGs Caitlin Halpert is an employee of 3Q Digital, and as PPC legend John Lee pointed out, it means “she has drunk David Rodnitzky’s Kool-Aid” of SKAGs. Halpert presented on SKAGs, and her obvious enthusiasm for them is a tribute to their … [Read more...] about The great account structure debate at SMX West 2016
7 Ways to Find Better Content Ideas
The simplest things are often the most difficult. How hard should it be to come up with a single content idea? Considering it’s a few words, you’d think it would only take a few seconds. You and I both know that there’s a lot more that goes into solidifying a good content idea than the first few words that come to mind. As content marketing becomes more popular and properly utilized, marketers will be producing more and more content. Currently, 91% of B2B marketers have started using content marketing. In addition, 77% of marketers plan to increase their content production over the next year. A single good idea every now and again is not enough—you need several. And if you’re working efficiently (in batches), you should be coming up with at least 50 at a time, but then writing about only the best ones. When you start a new content marketing campaign, ideas are relatively free flowing. You can write about just about anything in your niche. But once those … [Read more...] about 7 Ways to Find Better Content Ideas
