This has been the year of the social network, marked with the arrival of both major and minor players (Google+, UnThink), and the accelerating growth of existing platforms (Twitter, Facebook and Reddit, among others). As the social media landscape has evolved and branched out in different directions, Twitter has been one of the last leading social media power platforms to jump on the advertising bandwagon. This couldn’t come at more of an opportune moment; this past year, the amount of sharing on Twitter grew by 576% to make up a total of 13.5% of all sharing on the web. In the latter half of the year, Twitter has emerged as an important tool for advertisers and marketers, with the company significantly expanding its product offerings with several new services — including Branded Business Pages, advertising within the Twitter mobile App, and the Twitter Analytics dashboard. These new developments will allow marketers to manage their campaigns using an analytic approach. As … [Read more...] about Twitter’s New Ad Platform & Brand Pages Deliver Firepower for Marketers
New ad campaigns
I wasn’t in the room but I watched a webcast of Yahoo CMO Elisa Steele’s keynote at the IAB Mixx conference this morning from New York. She introduced the new Yahoo Search but spent more time on the new $100 million (or so) ad campaign: “It’s Y!ou.” Danny live blogged the It’s Y!ou talk by Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz, which also addressed a wide range of other issues. On the whole I’d have to say the earlier Steele speech was unimpressive and too familiar sounding. Maybe it’s because they’ve been previewing the messaging informally for some time. And maybe because the themes and creative of the new campaign — though impressively polished — are much like the old and unsuccessful “Life Engine” campaign of 2004. But there were also too many cliches and platitudes in the speech and it was delivered without convincing passion. The word “passion” was used repeatedly but not equally evident from the podium or … [Read more...] about What Do Y!ou Think Of Yahoo’s New Branding Campaign?

Because they know exactly what they are looking for, the tendency to browse is replaced by the urge to satisfy the … [Read more...] about Create Mobile Video Ad Campaigns Like A Boss
Following Facebook’s path in trying to present a competitive advertising platform, Twitter is hoping to attract advertisers aiming for large-scale campaigns. According to Twitter: “Ad groups introduce a new level in our campaign hierarchy: one campaign can have many ad groups, and an ad group can have many targeting criteria and creatives. This level of granular control helps advertisers improve how they measure results, set promotion schedules, test different audiences, and identify which Tweets work best.” This way it’s hoping to encourage more brands to join Twitter’s advertising options, as a way to reach a wider audience, increase leads, website traffic, or app downloads, while building, testing, optimising, and measuring all their different campaigns. This seems important for Twitter’s business future, as despite the slightly depressing facts we examined recently, it still tries to survive in the competitive world of social media, especially … [Read more...] about Twitter introduces better targeting with its new Ad Groups tool
