[As promised below in our post from late Tuesday night, the first Google Offer just arrived minutes ago in my Gmail inbox. Here’s a screenshot, followed by the remainder of Tuesday night’s post about it.] And with that, Google Offers will take its first baby step into a very competitive deals/coupon space that includes daily offerings from the likes of Groupon, Living Social and many others. Google Offers was born in late January, not long after Google reportedly failed to buy Groupon. Google began taking sign-ups for the Offers service in Portland and a few other areas just last month. Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt and VP of Commerce Stephanie Tilenius announced Google Offers at the D Conference tonight. Schmidt confidently said the reason Offers will succeed is because of its ties to Google Wallet — that Google is the “first company to integrate offers and payments on a phone,” according to Danny Sullivan’s live blog of tonight’s … [Read more...] about Google Offers Goes Live, First Portland Offer Arrives

Day one of our SMX Advanced conference is wrapping up with an annual tradition: a keynote conversation with Google covering a variety of SEO and SEO-related issues of great concern to webmasters and businesses of all sizes. But this year’s keynote has one notable difference: It’s the first year without the involvement of Matt Cutts, the former head of Google’s web spam team who’s now on leave from the company. We’ll miss Matt, but we’re happy to have Google Webmaster Trends Analyst Gary Illyes with us tonight — you should recognize Gary’s name because he’s spoken at a number of recent SMX conferences and been active in answering webmaster (and media) questions. He’ll be speaking with Search Engine Land’s founding editor, Danny Sullivan, starting at 5:00 pm PT, and I’ll be doing my best to live blog the entire conversation right here. So, if you’re not on-site with us in Seattle, get comfortable and join me … [Read more...] about SMX Advanced 2015 Live Blog: AMA With Google Search
Facebook first announced their Live feature about a year ago, initially only making it available for big brands and celebrities. People are more likely to purchase an item after watching a video. People trust videos, and they are more likely to recall a video ad than an add in any other format. In addition to the benefits of video, Live videos rank well on Facebook. Plus, … [Read more...] about 5 Tricks for Getting More Engagement on Facebook Live

In this episode of Marketing Nerds, Shannon Hernandez, a radio personality and podcast producer, sits down with Features Editor Danielle Antosz to talk about Facebook Live, what it can offer to businesses, and what makes it entertaining and interesting. What Facebook Live Has to Offer I’m able to give content out that is thoughtful to my audience and I’m getting to them in real-time. They ask me questions because they are truly interested and I’m giving them truly genuine answers, too. What I found with Facebook Live is as I’ve been using it for my audience is where I thought that I could drive people from the radio to my Facebook Live, it is actually the other way around. What is interesting is that when I first started Facebook Live, more people recognized me after being on the radio … [Read more...] about Facebook Live Engagement with Shannon Hernandez
With all this activity, 2017 will be hard-pressed to top its predecessor. But it’s also likely we will see a bigger, more diverse and capable universe of live-video programming and tools this year — and perhaps even more innovation, now that so many platforms and capabilities are available and audiences are learning to look for these experiences. If 2016 was the Year of Live’s Launch, 2017 will be the Year of Live’s Mainstreaming. Millions of people are learning to create live video, and more importantly, watching the live programming they find. They enjoy the power, immediacy and authenticity of live video, whether it’s on their mobile device, their desktop or other platforms. As a result, creators, publishers and brands will have even more opportunity to connect with consumers, employees and suppliers through programming that builds their bottom lines. So, where is live video heading? Below are some of our predictions: Multi-camera broadcasting New tools … [Read more...] about After a most lively year, where does live video go in 2017?
