Yesterday I had the opportunity to catch up with Simon Heseltine, Senior Marketing Manager at AOL (working on the Sports and news properties). Simon and I discussed his upcoming panel at SES San Jose on the topic of "Brand, Trademark & Reputation Management" - which is a very hot topic these days, check out our chat below. [Manoj]: How has the prevalence of social media changed the landscape of reputation management? [Simon Heseltine]: Well, as the idea of social media sites is to connect people and allow them to create content that's shared, that's a biggie in terms of reputation management. Lead by bloggers and software engineers Erik Hersman, Juliana Rotich, Ory Okolloh, and David Kobia, Ushahidi has since developed its own free and open-source software that maps international crisis - such as the Haiti earthquake in 2010 and the Japanese tsunami in 2011. … [Read more...] about 10 Non-Profits Making a Difference in the Tech Sector
Some have taken this to mean that this is a special case and they realize their algorithm change wasn’t as great as they originally thought. That’s unlikely to be the case. Google tweaks its algorithms hundreds of times a year and with every change, they continue to refine based on searcher behavior and feedback. In fact, this type of feedback is one of the primary reasons I created the webmaster discussion forum and webmaster trends analyst position when I worked at Google. Search engineers can use this information to look more closely at specific examples and make improvements. … [Read more...] about Your Site’s Traffic Has Plummeted Since Google’s Panda Update.
