Jill, I have newly entered the field of Internet marketing, and more specifically pay-per-click bid management as a result of my employer turning over a big pay-per-click account to me, and finding I am a natural at it and truly enjoy doing it. I was introduced to your newsletter and find it very informative and helpful; however, I find myself continually frustrated by many of the abbreviated terms used in the articles that I don't understand the meaning of. I try second-guessing, and figure out many of them, but some have me stumped! Right now, I feel like the kid in school, afraid to raise his/her hand and ask a "dumb question"... but perhaps, like that kid, there are others afraid to ask too! I realize to sound knowledgeable you need to use the accepted "jargon"; however, would it be possible to include a list at the bottom of the article of brief explanation and spelled out meaning of all the abbreviations or terms? Example: From most recent newsletter, SEO (Search Engine … [Read more...] about Search Engine Optimization Glossary
As a search engine marketing company, we are often asked by clients and prospects if there's a basic philosophy when it comes to organic search engine optimization and paid search advertising. "Is one tactic more favorable than another? How do I know which channel to pursue? Should I do both?" Without a hard look at your company's goals and unique situation, there really isn't a concrete answer to these questions. They often have tried pay-per-click and decided it didn't … [Read more...] about Search Engine Optimization and Paid Search: What Should Your Philosophy Be?

An Interview with Jill Whalen Prior to working on the web, what did you do for a living? Before I had my first child, I was a department coordinator at Prime Computer. Mostly I did Word Processing and that sort of thing. I stopped working outside the home in 1987, right before my oldest daughter, Corie, was born. From 1987 to about 1994, I was your basic mom-at-home, which is what I always wanted to be when I "grew up!" When did you first begin working out of your home and what did you do? During some of the years when I was *just* a mom-at-home, I babysat a few neighborhood kids during the day in order to make a few extra bucks. So that would be my first experience with working at home. I also tried selling Discovery Toys for a few months, but that really wasn't for me as I'm not a very good salesperson. Getting the toys for my kids was fun, but I never made any money at it. I have to say that I never really set out to make any real money at home. My husband and I waited to have … [Read more...] about Work at Home Mom Is Acclaimed Search Engine Optimization Expert
