6 Simple Tactics to Kick-Start Your Instagram Sales Funnel

Remember the days when Instagram was nothing more than the trendy new kid on the social media block? How the times have changed. The mammoth of a platform now has over 800 million monthly users and is growing steadily with no end in sight. Whereas Instagram was once an app where trailblazers shared their favourite photos and personal memories, it has quickly blown up to become one of the most lucrative online marketplaces in the world (the app is projected to generate $6.8 billion in mobile ad revenue in 2018). Instagram is unique because it offers a gateway into the hearts and wallets of one of the world’s hardest to reach generations — millennials. While millennials are known to be tough to reach and influence through traditional advertising mediums (cable TV, for example), a whopping 59 percent of 18-29 year-olds use Instagram. This newfound cultural phenomenon has given brands everywhere a new way to reach potential buyers. Furthermore, 80 percent of … [Read more...] about 6 Simple Tactics to Kick-Start Your Instagram Sales Funnel

5 Yelp Facts Business Owners Should Know (But Most Don’t)

The mere mention of the controversial company’s name generates a range of emotions — often times negative with a tinge of despair. At best, business owners are frustrated with the volume of sales calls they receive; at worst, they are on the receiving end of a number of negative reviews they don’t know to handle. We work with many multi-location and franchise businesses every day to improve Yelp presences, and I can say definitively that the despair is often unnecessary. Yelp is not a black box, but rather a nuanced platform that you can navigate to your advantage. Here are five facts about Yelp that, if understood and embraced, can morph that despair into determination to turn Yelp into a positive asset that helps the business. 1. The Filter Is Fluid The Yelp Filter is the most frustrating part of Yelp for many business owners, so let’s address it first. Many reviews come into Yelp, appear on the page for a day or two, and then disappear. These reviews are … [Read more...] about 5 Yelp Facts Business Owners Should Know (But Most Don’t)

Walking in the Search Engine’s Shoes

You know the old saying about not criticizing someone until you walk in their shoes. But have you noticed how critical many SEOs and Webmasters are when it comes to the search engines, when they've never walked "in their shoes"? Spam is a perfect example. The search engines have publicly stated that over 90% of submissions made through free add URL pages are spam. A few years ago, a FAST search engine representative showed me some examples of spam - how they tracked spammers, the sheer amount of spam coming from just one spammer, and so forth. Can you imagine how much better their strategies are now for catching spammers? It's almost impossible for us on this side of the fence to fathom the spam problem from the search engines' side of the fence. Suffice it to say that spam is a major issue with the search engines in terms of time, resources, and ultimately money. New filters are added by the engines to combat spam, and the Web community finds new ways to cheat their way to the top. … [Read more...] about Walking in the Search Engine’s Shoes

Google Executive Management Changes, 2000-2008

With two high-rankingGoogle executives leaving the Big G within a month’s time, I thought itwould be interesting to go back throughGoogle’s executivemanagement page over the years and see how it reflects changes among thehigher-ups. Below, there are a series of tables and commentary that hopefullylet you understand the shifting currents at-a-glance. Some notes. First, I think who gets listed on this page — and the order inwhich they are listed — is important. This has to be a perk for some execs —that they’ll get to show up and be profiled on that page. In addition, the orderis not always alphabetical. With the exception of the big three — CEO EricSchmidt, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin — I think who shows up first when it’s anon-alphabetical listing can be significant. There can be some exceptions tothis, and I’ll note them as part of the charts. Let’s dive in. The charts below reflect the exact order people were listed on … [Read more...] about Google Executive Management Changes, 2000-2008
