In a first look at the social search engine Volunia, I considered the main features which differentiate Volunia from existing search engines – and noted the steep road ahead faced by any new search engine. Volunia founder, Massimo Marchiori, has said that one of the main reasons to launch Volunia now was to gather feedback from beta testers. I spoke with Marchiori to find out what Volunia has learned after a week of exposure to users and to understand where Volunia is headed. I also asked him about Volunia’s support for webmasters. About 400,000 users have signed-up to use Volunia of which, 100,000 were provided access in the first week. Access is being doled out slowly in order to manage server loads. The two primary criticisms leveled against Volunia by users have been regarding disappointing search results and, especially from design conscious Italians, the user interface. Marchiori told me that the greatest problem with the search results is that Volunia has only … [Read more...] about Search Engine Volunia Plans First Improvements Thanks to User Feedback
On February 19th DDMA & IAB Nederland hosted their second annual Friends of Search event in Amsterdam, following a very successful Epic Friends of Search last year. I had a great time, and decided to reach out to some of the speakers for a followup epic event review. This was the biggest search event held in the Netherlands with 350 attendees and sold out a month before the event. It was also very successful on Twitter with over 731 tweets from the attendees using the #FOS15 hashtag which also reinforces the impact of having a simple conference hashtag if you want engagement. There was also 198 awesome photos the DDMA team had taken during the event that you can view here. The Friends of Search team even produced a fun little event review summary clip with some of the highlights from the FOS15 event, which is also a great teaser for their 2016 event. Getting the attention of today’s consumer is harder than ever before. They are on multiple devices, accessing numerous forms of media. Their paths to purchase are as varied as flavors of ice cream. And many use ad-blocking technology to run from attempts to reach them. It’s like chasing fireflies that light up and disappear in the dark just as you swing your net. This is a reality that won’t be changing anytime soon. As consumers’ digital experiences are increasingly interrupted by pop-up ads, pre-roll videos and banners that obscure their view, ads and unsolicited content seem to generate more irritation than interest. While more are trying to improve marketing and ROI through targeting, that still doesn’t always solve the problem of timing (i.e., serving up the content at the right moment). Google … [Read more...] about Does finding that micro-moment feel like chasing fireflies? Here are 9 data points that will help you catch them.
