What I learned SEO’s dramatic evolution What does SEO mean to you? How will SEO grow your business? What’s a lead worth? Why SEO is more than traffic and rankings Transcript Hey, welcome back Rankers. It’s a long weekend here in Melbourne. I thought I’d record now anyway, so I can get it out early and not have to worry about it on a day off. But a lot of people don’t have a public holiday, so sorry. We do. What is SEO to you? Apple’s Intelligent Tracking Prevention 2.1 (ITP2.1) limits the length of client side cookies to seven days. In short this means a Safari user that visits your site today will be viewed as a new/separate user if they don’t directly interact with your site within the next seven days. On February 21, 2019 WebKit (the web browser engine that powers Safari, Mail, App Store and more) announced the next iteration of Intelligent Tracking Prevention with iteration 2.1 or ITP2.1. The largest and most impactful change in IPT2.1 is to client side cookies, which will now be capped to seven days. From WebKit’s announcement: “With ITP 2.1, all persistent client-side cookies, i.e. persistent cookies created through document.cookie, are capped to a seven day expiry.” In layman’s terms, this means a user visiting your site with Safari today will be viewed as a new/separate user eight days from now if they don’t directly interact with your site during that … [Read more...] about What is ITP2.1 & What Does It Mean for Digital Marketing?
These days, SEO is changing and growing faster than ever, and our strategies for optimization have to change too. For example, you can ask a human “where is the hottest country?” and then ask, “how hot is … [Read more...] about What Does Semantic Search Mean for SEO?
The signs of fundamental change are all around us. Digital assistants reside within our living rooms, we consume Internet-based services everywhere, and we are creating data every second of the day. A sense pervades of being constantly connected through devices that communicate with each other. The experience of using the Internet is therefore markedly different to what it was 10 years ago. What we don’t quite have is a universally accepted label for this era of digital development. The phrase “Web 3.0” was first coined back in 2006. Viewed by some industry insiders back then as an “unobtainable dream“, the idea of Web 3.0 has remained elusive. However, as technology catches up and the tech giants figure out ways to make sense of the reams of unstructured data we create every second, the dream seems much more obtainable than ever before. In fact, many argue it is already a reality. So what exactly is Web 3.0? What makes it so different from Web … [Read more...] about What does Web 3.0 mean for search?
Google recently announced its plans to retire Google Checkout, an online payment processing service, and transition towards a more streamlined product known as Google Wallet. While the complete shutdown of Checkout will occur on the 20th of November, the news has already created some waves in the business market. Some are considering it a loss on Google’s account in the battle against PayPal for online payment processing, while others deem it a clever move. Before we jump to conclusions, it is important to understand what caused the demise of Checkout and how will it affect the market. Why did Google Checkout fail? When Google launched Checkout in 2006, it adopted a similar policy as with previous products: the people will either adopt it or they will not. As a result, Google never actively ‘sold’ the product to consumers, nor did it make any efforts to highlight the salient features of Checkout to them. Around the same time, similar services like PayPal were arriving … [Read more...] about What Does Google Checkout Dying Mean For Merchants?
