Put simply, UX is important in every part of our daily lives, probably more than most of us even notice. Let’s walk through an example. The 2000 U.S presidential election was extremely contentious. Here are the results: Pay attention to the highlighted “Electoral vote” and “Popular vote” statistics. In the United States, the president wins by getting a majority of electoral college votes. Each of the 50 states has a number of electoral college votes and whichever candidate wins your state gets all of the electoral college votes from your state. The election that year came down to the state of Florida and its electoral college votes. George Bush won the state by 537 votes out of almost six million votes. Crazy! It gets even more interesting. Here is what a ballot looked like in a county in Florida that year: If you were voting for George Bush, which button would you press? The answer is the button marked with an A. Easy. What would you press if you … [Read more...] about UX: What Is It And Why Does It Matter?
What is ppc and seo
Perhaps this is never a question you considered, especially if you work in a small company. You probably don't have much of a budget. Why not use the same landing page for the same keyword in both organic and paid search? It's the same exact keyword, after all. There's no need to pay for two different pages about the same thing. But if you work for a large company, you might be familiar with this question already. It is very common for the teams that run SEO and PPC to be completely separate. And when your teams are completely separate, they tend to do things separately, because coordination costs time. So, it is in fact quite normal for large search campaigns to use different landing pages for paid and organic. The question is whether it is a good idea. How would it affect your numbers if your paid and organic landing pages were the same? The only way to find out is to try. But before you try, you might want to consider a few things:You are doubling your content costs. … [Read more...] about Should PPC and SEO campaigns have different landing pages?
Throughout my time working in search marketing, one question inevitably comes up when pitching a new client: “Should we focus more on SEO or PPC?” Consider that question for a moment. Organic or paid search — they’re fundamentally different yet two sides of the same coin. Having tunnel vision for SEO or PPC doesn’t make much sense when they both help you get to where you want to go. What binds the two strategies together is their purpose: increasing visibility. It might help to think about this in the context of a basketball team — mostly because I like to make basketball-related analogies. Hear me out. Standard teams have five people on the court, typically specializing in one area: shooters, defenders, and facilitators. The best teams find a way to utilize everybody on the court. See where I’m going with this? It’s not much of a stretch to apply this principle to search marketing. Ignoring an entire medium is kind of like ignoring … [Read more...] about Combining PPC and SEO Strategies for Search Marketing Domination

I recently had a prospect ask me whether it’s ideal to have one team handle both the SEO and PPC efforts for an enterprise. To a large degree, that depends on the capabilities of your in-house group or external agency — world-class PPC and SEO advice seldom coincide with each other, and often one can be better off engaging a firm with deep expertise in a particular channel in order to “move the dial” for that channel. There are some areas where SEO and PPC efforts dovetail nicely; however, this doesn’t mean the same person or the same team needs to manage both in order for an enterprise to benefit from those synergies. It’s enough to simply coordinate and make sure the right questions are being asked at the right points in the process. Even in a situation where a single team is handling both efforts, the potential synergies are very often overlooked and under-delivered (truth be told)! Let’s assume your organization has two separate teams … [Read more...] about How To Drive PPC And SEO Synergy In Large Enterprises
