Data: Google Assistant Searcher Behavior On Android vs Google Home

A couple weeks ago, Scott Huffman the VP of Engineering at Google shared some interesting data on the Google Assistant. Here is one slide that shows how people throughout the day use the Google Assistant on their Android device compared to their Google Home device. You can see, people who use the Google Assistant across both their Android devices and Google home devices use them quiet differently throughout the day. Google Home does a lot more weather related questions in morning, and then news and media questions as well. Where as Android does a lot more communication and local types of queries.Danny Sullivan tweeted this as well: This is one of the only times we have some type of data from Google on voice search related topics. So check out the Google blog post over here.Forum discussion at Twitter.Note: This story was pre-written and scheduled to be posted now, I am currently offline for a holiday. … [Read more...] about Data: Google Assistant Searcher Behavior On Android vs Google Home

Speakable Markup For Publishers Not Supported On Google Home Hub

Google released their Google Home Hub, the one with the display, and after playing with it for a week, I discovered that currently, the speakable markup created for Google Assistant and Google Home is not supported on the Google Home Hub model. Instead, Google tries to send you to YouTube videos for news content on the Hub.As you know, I invested a lot of time setting up speakable markup and also adding the content to my stories every day. But when you ask the Google Home Hub, it does not work. As I explained in my Google Home Hub: An SEO perspective story at Search Engine Land - it simply brings up irrelevant videos on YouTube. Here is how it works on the Google Home without the display - pretty slick no?Here is how it fails on the Google Home Hub:I asked Google's team on this and they confirmed that speakable is currently not supported on the Google Home Hub. So now, do I need to make short videos for each of my pieces of content and post them on YouTube? My Search Engine Land story … [Read more...] about Speakable Markup For Publishers Not Supported On Google Home Hub

Speakable Markup Is Now Supported On Google Home Hub

The Google Home Hub, the one with the display, now supports speakable markup. When the Google Home Hub first launched it did not support speakable markup, like the Google Home without the display. But now it does and here is a video of the Google Home Hub showing off speakable markup working on this site.Like I said, speakable markup simply was not supported when the Google Home Hub with the display first launched. Now it does.I do have to say that I am more easily able to trigger speakable markup on the Google Home without the display than the one with the display. It might have to do with Google Home Hub trying harder to show video news clips over speakable markup. But I am not 100% sure about that, that is just my guess.Forum discussion at Twitter. … [Read more...] about Speakable Markup Is Now Supported On Google Home Hub

Google Home Services Ads For Locksmiths, Plumbers Hit San Francisco Market

Google’s anticipated program to promote local service providers in search ads is coming out of the woodwork. The company has confirmed a beta test for the program just launched in the San Francisco market. Buzzfeed first reported the home services solution was in the works in April. Taking on the likes of Yelp, Angie’s List and Amazon Home Services, Google’s home services ads promote pre-qualified home service professionals and enable users to submit requests to the providers straight from the search ads. Pete Meyers of Moz tweeted a screenshot of the test on Wednesday. I am seeing the ads on some searches for “San Francisco plumber” and “San Francisco locksmith,” the two services included in the beta. For comparison, below is a typical desktop search results page for “San Francisco plumber.” Local Google My Business listings, which are free for businesses, are located at the bottom of the screenshot in this case, and a Google Maps … [Read more...] about Google Home Services Ads For Locksmiths, Plumbers Hit San Francisco Market

Google Home Services ads come to mobile search (then disappear again)

A trial of Google Home Services (GHS) ads on mobile is the clearest sign yet that Google intends to roll the GHS beta program out to the mobile platform and an insight into how it might look when it happens. Google has been running a trial of Google Home Services (GHS) ads on mobile. GHS results have been spotted – revealed below – in mobile searches for tradesmen in San Francisco and Sacramento, during October. The subsequent disappearance of the ads come November show this was just a trial. But it is the clearest sign yet that Google intends to roll the GHS beta program out to the mobile platform. Plus, if this format is a good indication of the real thing, the format will look very different on mobile to what we are currently seeing on desktop. Experts privy to Google’s plans have been sworn to secrecy, so we can only speculate on when (not “if”) Google will finally roll out the GHS beta to mobile search and what format it will take. But this does look … [Read more...] about Google Home Services ads come to mobile search (then disappear again)
